Blender - A kitchen appliance used to mix ingredients or puree liquids and food. A blender operates via motor powered blades that rapidly rotate and chop, puree and mix ingredients.

Immersion Blender - A hand held blender that has no container of its own. An immersion blender has a mixing head with rotating blades that is immersed in a container to mix ingredients.

Blender Blades - Blades on the top of the blender base and at the bottom of the blender container. The blades are attached to the blender’s motor via the blade shaft. The motor powers the blades and causes them to rotate and chop and mix.

Blender Base or Housing - The base of the blender unit that houses the blender motor and that the blender jar or container twists into.

Blender Container Capacity - How many ounces of ingredients the blender can hold, typically between 4 to 8 cups or 32 to 64 ounces.

Blender Jar or Container - A glass, stainless steel or plastic piece that fits over the blender blades and holds the blended foods or liquids.

O–ring, Rubber Washer or Gasket - The rubber seal between the bottom of the container and the base or housing which seals the container and prevent its contents from leaking into the motor.

Blender Pulse Button - A button which, when pressed, moves the blender blades, and blends the ingredients in short bursts.

Blade Shaft - The small shaft poking up from the bottom of the upper blender housing which connects with, attaches to, and powers the blades.

Emulsify - Combining two liquids together, like oil and water, which normally do not mix easily.

Horsepower - A measure used to describe a motor’s power. 1 horsepower is equal to approximately 746 watts.

Watts - A measure of energy power.
